IMMUNITY

Impacts of increased and multiple use of inland navigation and identification of tools to reduce impacts

IMMUNITY was a EU-funded research project. Funding has taken place under the Transport RTD Programme of the 4th Framework Programme. The goal of IMMUNITY was to create an overview of the impacts of increased and multiple use of inland navigation and to identify tools to reduce negative impacts.

In 1997, a consortium, consisting of five research organisations, developed a project proposal for a 2-year study project aiming at solving potential problems of the growing use of inland waterways. The consortium defined as overall goal of the study:  to analyse the impact of the increased and multiple use of inland navigation and to develop tools to reduce the negative impacts of the increased use of inland navigation. IMMUNITY officially started at January 1st, 1998 and terminated at December 31st, 2000.

For inland navigation, the State of the Art and policy and trends were treated, including its market structure, logistic concepts and systems, transhipment, fleet structure and (information) technological development.
